Creating an invitation has not been difficult for a long time now – there are plenty of options online to send a card in just a few steps. But a unique, original invitation for a special occasion? It's not that easy. For all the creatives who want to give it a try, we have listed four rules.
If you search the internet for creative ideas, you will come across a lot. Pinterest is a paradise for creativity. However, no matter how cool some ideas are, you will realize that not every invitation suits you as a person (or organization, if you are making a company invitation).
What do you stand for and go for? What do you really find important in life? And what do you like to do most? It is crucial that you incorporate a bit of yourself into your invitation. This ensures a 'fitting' image for the recipient: it is creative, it is original and it is 'you'.
Sounds like an obvious rule, but it is something to be aware of. During your creative process, you may get lost in the small details, resulting in an end result that is fun, but does not really fit the type of party.
By thinking very carefully in advance about the type of party that is going to be organized (a company party, an event, a wedding, etc.), you can determine in broad terms what atmosphere you want to create. How should an invitation feel? Which colors fit this party? Should it be a very flashy, immediately eye-catching invitation or a more modest and chic one? Read here the do's and don'ts of making an invitation.
Creating a creative, unique invitation can be like putting a kid in a toy store: you want to go all out and grab everything. Colored paper, glitter, ribbons, serrated scissors, typographical feats – you have an idea for everything.
Of course it is good to dress up your invitation with small decorations, but you can also overdo it. Consider for each type of decoration whether it fits your style and the type of party and whether it really adds something to the originality of your invitation. If not, then you should probably leave it out. This way you prevent a complete circus from unfolding when the recipient opens the envelope.
You may not be able to imagine forgetting this in advance. But it does happen, and that is not so strange. During your creative process you are busy with so many small things that these 'essentials' escape you for a moment:
So don't forget, because your recipients always need this information.
With the above rules and a quick browse through Pinterest for inspiration, you will definitely succeed in creating an original invitation. Also on Brit.co you will find an overview of fun, creative invitations.
